Anything from smallest possible FPGA on the market to larger-than-life Xilinx
VirtexII or Altera Stratix. It's an impossible question to answer. You need to
specify things like:
(1) Operational and address width
(2) Register file size.
(2) Scalar or superscalar operation.
(3) Issue type
etc etc.
You can build a very small 4 to 8-bit KCPSM-style RISC with ~1 kGates and from
there on all the way up to MegaGate designs ala Alpha, PPC, MIPS R1xK.
What's your application?

Interfaces needed? Size needed? Memories needed?
