For general FPGA development I find that the boards from Altera and Xilinx are
great value for money. If you look at the Altera APEX, Sratix och Cyclone boards
for Nios development you get impressive amounts of HW, good tools for very litte
money. You can get this (depending on campaign or not) for around USD 495, which
IMHO is dirt cheap. Xilinx have similar deals for their dev kits.
My favourite is the Cyclone board, but if you want to serious DSP-processing get
the Stratix instead.
Gunnar, you can always look at the table next to Jonas for the first hand
experience. ;-)
