architecture independant part of MMU-less support is just a small piece of the puzzle, you also need arch dependant and toolchain support (which is the most pain)
now regarding the access to the peripherals in linux you normally use ioremap which does some MMU magic in linux case and needs to do something sane in uclinux case. this is an example of what it may change even if the device drivers source is the same.
