I looked how the uClinux gets built in the ATS and I see it uses -O2
(http://www.opencores.org/cores/or1k/ats/or32-uclinux/build_uclinux.txt) and
the simulator boots it just fine
(http://www.opencores.org/cores/or1k/ats/or32-uclinux/or1ksim_uclinux.txt).
