Well then it's fairly simple, however one could do better :-) ...
How much do you know about frequency converters ? ( ie. really 3 phase asynchronous short circuited induction motors I guess ) ( Take a little look at the site of the company I currently work for :-) .. I know a little about power electronics ).
The question if it's a back to back converter, or a directly operating frequency converter, there is a lot of options.
Would you think it would be a good idea to start such a project ? I would give a hand but I have too much to do to be a maintainer.
for a converter it would have to be a pwm based D/A since the higher frequencies of a PCM converter would incur too big losses in the power electronics, however a A/D is very easily done with an fpga, ( without a comparator even ).
So a basic design would have a DA and perhaps a AD core, ( current sensing/limiting ), perhaps a cordic to generate the sines and such ( or three if it fit's and is small enough, or to pipeline one cordic ).
Also I know how to build this, but I don't know how the preferred method of control works ? is it a feedback loop ? do you have to have digital or analog inputs ?
If youre willing to take charge I think an opencores motor controller project would be nice :-) . ( We would have all the components to control a servo motor or a DC or series motor also in this project ).
( I really think vector control would be much more neat, since you can sense the position and speed of the drive and also run ot optimum mslip at all times ).
Anyhow, is anybody interested ?
( btw. what size of motors and what are they used for ? ).
